Erik Simula of Hovland bails water from his canoe while a Duluth firefighter holds his dog in the Duluth ship canal this morning. Firefighters had Simula leave his canoe and towed it to the U.S. Coast Guard station. “Kind of sobering. Close call,” Simula said later of the experience.
